The following response was emailed from UU Church of Nashua to a community member who sent an email about our Black Lives Matter banner, May 2017.

Thank you sincerely for joining the conversation about our Black Lives Matter banner on our church.

We certainly agree with you that all lives matter. The first of our seven Unitarian Universalist principles is that ALL lives have worth and dignity.

Right now, though, when laws are often enforced differently by race, when school expectations and job decisions are unfairly influenced by race, it’s black and brown lives that are in crisis – even beyond the pressures that all American people feel today.

The Gospel Coalition has powerful ideas about Jesus and the Bible and injustice that you may find interesting: kindly click https://tinyurl.com/l76fjtu to read or listen to the audio.

Saying “Children’s Lives Matter” doesn’t mean that adult lives don’t matter.  “Let’s Cure Cancer” doesn’t mean let’s not cure heart disease. We just need a little help sometimes to remember that black lives matter TOO, just as much; it doesn’t mean that black lives are the ONLY ones that matter.

Again, thanks very much for taking the time to email us your thoughts. I hope we have given you a little something to think about as well.
